New Temples for the Faithful

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been busy expanding its network of temples around the world. In a series of announcements, the church is bringing new places of worship to Mexico and Brazil, alongside Idaho and South Carolina.

San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple

The San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple is set for an impressive series of events. The open house will kick off with a media day on Monday, September 21, 2026, followed by tours for invited guests on September 22 and 23. Public tours will be available from Thursday, September 24, through Saturday, October 10 (excluding Sundays and Saturday, October 3).

Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside at the dedication on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 10 a.m. (rebroadcast at 2 p.m.).

Santos Brazil Temple

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Santos Brazil Temple is scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2026. Elder Ronald M. Barcellos, of the Brazil Area Presidency, will preside over the event. An exterior rendering has been provided to give a glimpse into the temple’s design.

Caldwell Idaho and Greenville South Carolina Temples

President Russell M. Nelson announced both the Santos Brazil and San Luis Potosí Mexico Temples in April 2022, emphasizing that regular worship in the house of the Lord increases our capacity for virtue and charity. The Caldwell Idaho Temple will be built on a 19.2-acre site at the southwest corner of W Orchard Ave. and S Florida Ave., Canyon County, Idaho, while the Greenville South Carolina Temple is set to be constructed on an 8.8-acre site located at the south intersection of Independence Boulevard/Ponders Road and Roper Mountain Road.

You might think this is new, but…

The Church has been expanding its temples for decades, aiming to provide more convenient locations for members to receive sacred ordinances and blessings. Over 1.5 million Latter-day Saints call Mexico home, meeting in around 1800 congregations, while over 1.5 million members live in Brazil, with over 2000 congregations.
