The Barcelona Revival
After a few years of neglect, Formula 1 is making a strong comeback at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Stefano Domenicali, the President & CEO of F1, announced that the race will be extended until 2032, ensuring that fans can continue to enjoy one of the most thrilling circuits in the world.
From this year onwards, the race will bear a new name: the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. This rebranding is part of F1’s strategy to enhance the fan experience and maintain its status as a key fixture on the calendar. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has long been known for its exciting blend of high-speed straights and technical corners, making it a favorite among drivers and spectators alike.
Investing in the Future
The circuit’s recent investments have transformed it into an even more impressive venue. The construction of the Circuit Rooftop has provided fans with stunning views of turns 9, 10, and 11, as well as the entrance to the main straight. Additionally, solar panels have been installed throughout the complex, reducing the circuit’s carbon footprint while enhancing its sustainability.
Organizers have also taken steps to improve the overall fan experience.
For the past two years, a fan festival has been hosted in the iconic Plaça de Catalunya before each Grand Prix weekend. This event has helped to create a buzz around the race and ensured that the wider community is at the heart of the festivities.
Memorable Moments
The circuit has played host to many unforgettable moments, with Max Verstappen’s maiden victory in 2016 being one of the highlights. In recent years, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have also claimed victories on this challenging track. The race is now poised to continue as a cornerstone of F1’s European schedule.
Barcelona will alternate hosting the Grand Prix with Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, which will take place in 2026, 2027, 2029, and 2031. This rotation ensures that both circuits remain relevant and continue to attract top talent and enthusiastic fans.

Pol Gibert, the CEO of Circuits de Catalunya SL and General Secretary of the Department of Business and Employment, expressed gratitude for F1’s continued support. He highlighted that Formula 1 generates over €300 million in economic impact per edition and serves as a strategic event to project Catalonia worldwide.
“Barcelona is an incredible city, and the Formula 1 fans there always welcome us with such passion,” said Domenicali. “I am delighted that we will continue to race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for years to come.”
