Jon Ossoff, the incumbent Democrat seeking re-election, held a rally in downtown Atlanta to shore up support ahead of what is likely to be one of the nation’s most closely watched Senate races. The event was staged at The Tabernacle and saw Ossoff team up with Democratic gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms.
A National Referendum on Trump
Ossoff framed the 2026 midterms as a referendum on the Trump administration’s policies, particularly focusing on economic issues like rising insurance premiums and grocery prices. He criticized recent foreign policy decisions and argued that Georgia is ready to take action against what he perceives as Republican-backed tariffs and voting restrictions.
“We are going to vote from the top of the ballot to the bottom of the ballot to make sure we are electing leaders who are putting Georgians first,” Bottoms told supporters.
Voting Rights and Medicaid Expansion
The rally also highlighted broader concerns around voting rights and health care. Pamela Blackstone, a cafeteria worker caring for her autistic grandson, shared how her Affordable Care Act insurance premium had skyrocketed from $80 to over $400 per month. This anecdote underscored the personal impact of rising costs faced by many Georgians.

A Divided GOP
Democrats leveraged these issues to connect national political frustrations with local concerns. The event came as Georgia Republicans were still locked in a contentious gubernatorial runoff between Lt. Gov.
Burt Jones and businessman Rick Jackson, both of whom Ossoff accused of supporting Trump-era policies.

Strategic Importance for Democrats
For Democrats, the rally was designed to showcase enthusiasm early in their campaign. Ossoff’s aggressive stance could become flashpoints in months ahead as Republicans seek to portray Democrats as overly focused on national political grievances instead of economic recovery and border security.
The runoff has exposed divisions within Georgia Republicans over messaging, strategy, and the future direction of the party heading into November while Democrats are hoping to capitalize on these same dynamics.
“Georgia is ready to do our part again to save our republic,” Ossoff told the crowd.
