Richland County Teen Charged with Hate Crime in Burglary Case
A 13-year-old from Richland County has been charged with a hate crime after authorities uncovered extensive damage and offensive graffiti at a vacant home. The incident took place on May 14, where the young suspect, whose identity was withheld due to their age, is now facing multiple charges.
Damage and Graffiti
The inside of the home had been significantly damaged, with large holes in the walls, a kicked-in door, and broken windows. What made the case particularly disturbing were several messages spray-painted on the walls, containing racial slurs and antisemitic messaging that included the use of swastikas.
Investigation Details
A witness reported seeing two minors running from the home when they arrived to check on the property. Deputies found paint cans at the teen’s home during a search warrant, suggesting premeditation. The suspect was taken to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
