Key Highlights

  • Lifetouch, a major school photography provider, is in the spotlight due to recent revelations about its owner’s ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
  • The renewed attention centers on allegations involving Apollo Global Management co-founder Leon Black and former JPMorgan executive Jes Staley.
  • Memoranda from federal prosecutors reveal unsettling claims against both men, including accusations of sexual assault at Epstein’s residence.
  • Lifetouch in the Spotlight: The Hidden Connections

It’s been a tumultuous year for Lifetouch, one of America’s largest providers of school photography services. As the newly released Epstein Files hit headlines, the company found itself under intense scrutiny once again.

You might think this is new, but… in reality, the story has been building for years. Shutterfly, which acquired Lifetouch in 2019, is owned by Apollo Global Management, a firm co-founded by Leon Black, a billionaire financier with a tangled past. After stepping down as CEO in 2021 due to Epstein-related controversies, Black still faces allegations from multiple parties.

    The Allegations Against Leon Black

According to internal memoranda prepared by federal prosecutors and released this month, an unidentified woman alleged that around 2011 or 2012, Jeffrey Epstein directed her to give a massage to Black. The documents state that Black initiated sexual contact during the encounter, causing the woman to leave the room and complain to Epstein.

Black has denied any misconduct. His lawyer, Susan Estrich, issued a statement saying there is “absolutely no truth to any of the allegations against Black.” However, this isn’t the first time he’s faced scrutiny; three civil lawsuits filed against him have been dismissed or withdrawn, with one facing potential sanctions.

    Staley’s Troubled Past

Meanwhile, Jes Staley, a former senior executive at JPMorgan and later CEO of Barclays, faces his own challenges. In December 2019, federal prosecutors alleged that Staley, then a high-ranking JPMorgan official, raped an unnamed woman after forcing her to touch his genitals. He has denied the accusation.

Staley’s career took another hit when regulators found he had misled Barclays about his relationship with Epstein, resulting in a lifetime ban from senior roles in British financial services. The Justice Department has not charged either man but has renewed attention on their alleged misconduct.

    The Broader Implications

This isn’t just about black-and-white accusations and denials; it’s about the deeper implications for companies and individuals in the business world. As Lifetouch continues to operate, questions linger about its management’s past connections and ongoing scrutiny.
