The Podcast Paradox: Joe Rogan’s $500 Dilemma
You might think this is new, but…
In a world where podcasts reign supreme, the Golden Globes have finally decided to recognize them. Or so it seemed. At least for now.
Rogan’s Refusal and Rejection
On Thursday’s episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” host Joe Rogan made his stance crystal clear: he refused to pay the $500 entry fee to be nominated for a Golden Globe podcast award. He said, “I don’t want to be a part of that.”
“A lot of people say, ‘Why wasn’t Joe Rogan nominated for the Golden Globes? Why did Amy Poehler win?’ I didn’t submit,” Rogan told his guest Bert Kreischer on the show.
Amy Poehler’s Victory and the $500 Fee
Meanwhile, comedienne and actress Amy Poehler took home the inaugural Golden Globe podcast award for “Good Hang.” The fee? A whopping $500. Some might question where she got it from; others just think it’s a joke.
Rogan’s Opinion on Podcast Popularity
But Rogan isn’t bothered by this new category. He argues, “I already won.” His reasoning: his show has been the number one podcast for five straight years and was ranked top across Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube in 2025.
“All of a sudden, you’re going to have a contest in front of all these people wearing tuxedos and you’re going to say now I’m not number one? Fuck off — I don’t care that I’m number one, but I am,” he said bluntly.
The Broader Question
This debate isn’t just about money. It’s about the legitimacy of a new award category at such a prestigious event. Some see it as a natural evolution; others think it’s a cynical move to expand their reach into new territories.
One thing is certain: Joe Rogan will continue to be Joe Rogan, no matter what the Golden Globes say.
