The Falcon’s Strategic Move
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – In a strategic move aimed at bolstering their special teams unit and offensive coordination, the Atlanta Falcons have named Craig Aukerman as their new special teams coordinator. The announcement was made on Monday, adding to the Falcons’ already reshaped coaching staff under head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Aukerman’s Experience
Craig Aukerman comes to Atlanta after a successful season with the Miami Dolphins in the same role. He brings 26 years of overall coaching experience, including 16 seasons at the NFL level where he held coordinator positions for half of his tenure.
Performance Highlight
In 2025, Aukerman’s impact on the Dolphins’ special teams was evident as Miami had the fourth-best field-goal success rate in the league. Riley Patterson, who was their sole kicker during that season, made a significant contribution with 27 out of 29 successful kicks. His consistency from long distances and his ability to make critical blocks were key factors contributing to the Dolphins’ overall performance.
Previous Coaching Roles
Prior to Miami, Aukerman served as a special teams assistant for the Los Angeles Rams in 2024, under head coach Sean McVay. Before that, his extensive experience spanned seven seasons with the Tennessee Titans, where he coached and led the special teams unit from 2018 to 2023. His tenure with the Titans saw them making it to the postseason four times, including two AFC South titles.
Other Coaching Additions
The Falcons have also added Robert Prince as their wide receivers coach and Bob Quinn as senior advisor to the head coach. Prince comes from Miami where he held a similar position in 2025. Meanwhile, Bob Quinn was previously the Cleveland Browns’ senior personnel/coaching executive.
Team Dynamics
The Falcons are under new leadership with Kevin Stefanski at the helm and these hires are part of the team’s effort to refine their overall strategy on both sides of the ball. Aukerman’s experience in coaching special teams, combined with his track record of success, is expected to have a positive impact on the Falcons’ game plans.
The hiring process continues as the Falcons work towards building a strong and cohesive team for the upcoming season. With key positions filled, the focus now shifts to integrating these new additions into their current structure and ensuring seamless transitions on the field.
